Biography

David S. Wieder

Attorney, trial lawyer, civic leader, and writer.

A Miami legal career

Born in New York City and raised in Miami Beach, David S. Wieder attended North Beach Elementary School, Nautilus Junior High School, and Miami Beach Senior High School. He graduated from the University of Miami and New England Law in Boston.

After law school and a period living in Paris with his wife, Catherine, he returned to New York and joined the legal staff of The Hartford Insurance Company. There, he represented insureds, gained courtroom experience, and learned how claims departments evaluate cases and litigation risk.

Private practice and litigation

After returning to Florida, he established a civil litigation practice encompassing personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, catastrophic injury, commercial disputes, and aviation litigation. For seventeen years, he represented Lufthansa in aviation cases.


Throughout his career, he has recovered millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements and has been rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell.

Professional and civic service

His professional and civic work has included service on Florida Bar committees, chairing an Eleventh Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee, leadership in the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board and Planning Board, and service as Treasurer of the American Jewish Committee. He was a candidate for Mayor of Miami Beach in 2015.

Writing

In addition to legal practice, he writes essays on law, history, constitutional government, foreign affairs, public policy, and contemporary life.
